Graham Dorrans suffers Rangers transfer blow as Glenn Middleton nears NAC Breda switch

Steven Gerrard has revealed Rangers outcast Graham Dorrans has suffered a calf injury in training.

The 32-year-old midfielder is surplus to requirements at Rangers but will be allowed to leave if the right offer comes in.

But Record Sport understands the player will train today after the minor niggle as he looks to keep himself ticking over.

The former West Brom and Norwich man has endured a wretched two-year stay at his boyhood club with issues blighting his time in Govan.

But there was better news for Rangers with both Filip Helander and Jon Flanagan stepping up their fitness bids ahead of the season opener against Kilmarnock.

The pair will feature for Graeme Murty as the development squad take on Chelsea on Friday night.

Gerrard said: "Jon Flanagan will play tonight for 60 minutes, Felip Helander will also play the full 90 tonight in for the Development squad.

"Jamie Murphy has a small issue and Graham Dorrans has reported a calf injury."

But one man who is nearing a temporary Ibrox exit is Glenn Middleton as he closes in on a loan move to NAC Breda.

The 20-year-old winger was linked with a move to Doncaster but the Scotland youth international is poised for a foreign adventure as he looks for regular game time.

Gerrard added: "Glenn Middleton is very close to going on loan in Holland.

"Fair play to him going for such a challenge. That will be good for his development, playing for a team challenging in front of passionate fans."
