Graham Coughlan sends Bristol Rovers' thoughts and prayers to Benik Afobe following death of Bristol City star's daughter

Graham Coughlan says the whole of Bristol is behind Benik Afobe after it was announced the Bristol City striker's daughter had passed away on Friday evening, aged just two years old.

Coughlan's Bristol Rovers side were in action against Plymouth Argyle this afternoon, but hours before kick-off it was revealed that Afobe's daughter, named Amora, had died on Friday evening following complications from a severe infection.

The Rovers boss took time out from speaking about his side's 1-1 draw to specifically send the Gas' best wishes to the striker, who is on loan at Bristol City from Stoke.

He said: "I'd like, on behalf of Bristol Rovers Football Club, the players, the managers and supporters, to pass on our condolences to Benik Afobe.

"I know the rivalry and I think every man, woman and child in this city would echo my sentiments.

"It's a really tough time for them, what happened before the game.

"My thoughts, my prayers and us, as a football club, we wish his family all the best."

It was the latest in a long line of tributes that football has paid to Afobe following the tragic news, with Afobe's former side Wolves wearing black armbands in their game against Sheffield United.

Wolves star Matt Doherty kissed his armband when celebrating his goal in an emotional show of love for Afobe.
