Graham Coughlan on the state of play with Bristol Rovers' transfers

Bristol Rovers manager Graham Coughlan says he is hopeful of more signings soon.

The Gas boss has brought seven new players to the club so far this summer, but was forced to field a number of young players in Saturday's defeat to Birmingham City.

Coughlan believes that is a sign that Rovers are still lacking in areas and is keen to address that soon.

"Yes please," Coughlan said when asked if he anticipated any signings in the coming week.

"I think you've seen today that we're short in a couple of areas of the team.

"I don't think no rocket science is needed to work that out.

"We are short, so we do need strengthening in some areas of the team, yes."

One incoming could well be Irish defender Liam Scales.

UCD boss Colin O'Neill has once again stated his belief that the centre-back, who turned down a contract offer at Manchester City's under-23s, is on his way to Rovers.

Earlier this week, O'Neill said he felt it was just paper work holding up the deal despite last-minute interest from both Fleetwood Town and Portsmouth.

Speaking to extratime.ie , he said: "It’s still caught in paperwork.

"It’s just waiting on contracts to come through, be signed, and the next bit to be done. As far as I’m concerned, he’s left. I think it’s just going to be Bristol Rovers."
