Graham Coughlan explains why Bristol Rovers have handed Deon Moore a new contract

Bristol Rovers have announced striker Deon Moore has signed a new deal with the League One club.

Moore was offered a new contract at the start of the summer along with Joe Partington and James Clarke.

Both Partington and Clarke decided to move on with the former returning to National League side Eastleigh and Clarke taking up the offer of improved wages at former manager Darrell Clarke’s Walsall.

But Moore has now agreed a new deal.

Moore joined Rovers’ development squad last August after impressing on trial over the summer.

Moore, still just 20, started his early career in non-league with Carshalton Athletic, before joining League One rivals Peterborough United as a scholar in 2015.

Despite being just a teenager while at Posh the striker made four first-team appearances in the EFL.

Moore spent a spell out on loan at Bath City in November, 2018, but in March he made his first team debut for Rovers, coming off the bench in the 4-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

The forward has been a regular for the Gas in pre-season this summer and has really caught the eye, particularly in the 10-1 victory over Yate Town.

Scoring the first goal of the game, the 20-year-old was aggressive, direct and powerful plus displayed some fine hold-up play emphasizing his promise as a striker in serious consideration for the first-team on a more regular basis.

Speaking to the official Bristol Rovers website, Coughlan said: "Deon is a player that we like the look of and is someone that can give us another outlet in the attacking areas.

"He's been involved with the squad since the start of pre-season and has done well so far, getting on the scoresheet in a number of the pre-season games.

"Deon's impressed with the Development Squad last season and now has a chance to prove himself and we want to see him continuing the hard work he has shown so far this summer.”
