Graham Alexander makes Rangers offside claim as he insists Cedric Itten header shouldn't have counted

Graham Alexander insists Rangers equaliser should have been flagged offside at Fir Park.

The Motherwell boss reckons Cedric Itten was beyond the last defender, although TV replays appear to show him in line with Declan Gallagher.

Alexander was frustrated by the equaliser but was delighted with the overall showing of his side as they defended staunchly to stop the visitors getting all three points.

Steven Gerrard was frustrated by his side's first half performance as Motherwell became just the third team to take points off of the Ibrox men.

He reckoned they would have deserved all three points on the basis of their second half performance but Alexander was thrilled with his side.

He told Sky Sports: “The players deserve all the credit, they took on our game plan, I thought we were the better team in the first half.

"Our structure in the second half, we defended really well and the frustration is the goal, I don't believe it should have counted.

"I didn't see it at the time but I've seen the stills and the pictures - the lad looks offside when the ball comes in.

"But that's not within our control, all I can try and concentrate on is what's in our control and that's the structure of the team, the motivation, the togetherness of everyone at the club.

"And that, for me, was top notch today."

"You can get bogged down with results and bad feeling, and we've tried to lift it a little bit.

"There's so many people taking part in that and what pleases me similar to last week is when we concede a goal, we don't go and concede another one.

"We keep digging in, we keep going. And that's as severe a test as we'll face I would think, with the quality Rangers have in their ranks.

"But I know, first half especially, we frustrated them. And not in the way that we just banked in our box, we tried to press them from the front, they had the ball but we controlled where they went with it.

"And I couldn't ask for any more from the team.

"But for a cross and an offside header we take three points so the players have got to take great confidence from that."
