Graham Alexander considers Motherwell appeal over Liam Polworth red card

Motherwell manager Graham Alexander says he is considering appealing Liam Polworth's red card in their 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen.

The midfielder went down injured in the middle of the park after a challenge from Lewis Ferguson and as he was holding his shoulder awaiting treatment, Napier gave him his marching orders for bad language.

However, Polworth has claimed the abuse wasn't directed at the official.

Speaking to the BBC, Alexander said: "He's just shown him a straight red and we didn't understand at all at first.

"But it was for foul and abusive language.

"My player is saying he did swear, but it was at the player who fouled him and maybe that's been misinterpreted.

"We'll have to look at the official report and see if there's anything we can do."

Meanwhile, the Fir Park boss - who was booked for having a pop at Napier during the game - insists they won't feel sorry for themselves after that decision and a penalty claim went against them at Pittodrie.

Sherwin Seedorf had a goalbound shot blocked by the hand of Funso Ojo in teh first half, but it was missed by Napier.

Alexander is still searching for his first win as gaffer, with the Steelmen currently on a 13 game winless run that stretches back to October.

And he told Motherwell's club media: "I thought we were the better team in the first half.

"They've scored off the set-piece but that was it really.

"We've hit the post and had a penalty turned down, so we could have been leading at half-time.

"But we are not going to leave here feeling sorry for ourselves, we don't want a hard luck story, we need to understand our future is in our hands.

"Anything that happens outwith that, we've just got to roll with the punches.

"We've been beaten and we have to take that on the chin, but we certainly played the way I wanted us to play and we had some great opportunities we were unfortunate with.

"I thought the team was fantastic. How they played and how the reacted to adversity, how they stayed as a team all the way through the game.

"I was proud with how they competed.

"We just want to focus on the things that we control and I thought we did that exceptionally well."
