Grafton Street store Disney asking Dublin City Council for planning permission for security gate to keep rough sleepers away

Grafton Street store Disney has asked Dublin City Council for planning permission for a security gate to keep away rough sleepers.

The shop has applied to erect steel shutters which will close off access to its front doors at night.

CBRE who act as agents for the Disney store say that homeless people had been sheltering in its doorway and that it was being 'improperly used'.

They said: "Staff members of the Disney store have observed the recessed doorway as being used by the homeless for sleeping, alongside apparent drug use being reported."

They added: "This activity has exposed the Disney staff to threatening behaviour and confrontation. Due to this the Garda have been contacted on multiple occasions to deal with this."

According to The Sunday Times, the planning permission proposes a 3.5 meter wide and 3.1 meter high gate, coated blue to match the shop front.

Aviva Life and Pensions who own the building used by Disney added that they are satisfied with the proposed plans.
