Grafton Street area could become traffic-free permanently under new proposals from Dublin City Council

The Grafton Street area could see its streets become permanently pedestrianised.

Dublin City Council has announced that it will launch a public consultation this week asking for people's opinion on the proposed changes.

It follows periods of pedestrianisation back in July and August, and positive feedback from the public.

But there were also concerns raised particularly from retailers and surrounding access to car parks.

The proposal includes having the following roads traffic-free from 11am each day:

  • Anne Street South from the junction of Dawson Street
  • South William Street from the Brown Thomas carpark exit to Exchequer Street
  • Drury Street from just after its junction with Fade Street to the Drury Street carpark
  • Dame Court From Exchequer Street

Further details on the public consultation will be launched by the council later this week.

Streets across parts of Dublin have been pedestrianised during the COVID-19 pandemic in an effort to bring business back to the capital.

But due to the Level 5 restrictions currently in place across Ireland, businesses have been forced to shut their doors as the public is encouraged to stay home and only travel if its essential.
