Graftbuster reports for duty

A woman who exposed irregularities in the graft-hit welfare centre in Khon Kaen when she worked as an intern started working yesterday for the Office of Anti-Corruption in Public Sector Area 4 in the northeastern province.

Panida “Bam” Yotpanya reported to Thongsuk na Phol, the acting office chief in the morning.

Ms Panida received a warm welcome from her colleagues and said it was a dream come true. She vowed to work through her assignments and expend her full efforts for the benefit of the country, community and people.

Mr Thongsuk said Ms Panida was recruited as a civil servant in special circumstances as she had done a good deed for the country.

He said he was proud of Ms Panida for acting for the benefit of the country by exposing graft in state agencies, which led to a nationwide investigation that exposed systemic embezzlement across the whole system.

Referring to the probe into the scandal at the Protection Centre for the Destitute in Khon Kaen, Mr Thongsuk said work is still under way to interview witnesses and 80% progress has been made.

Next month, six suspects are expected to be summonsed to acknowledge charges relating to abuse of authority, document falsification and embezzlement, he said.
