Graeme Souness tells Manchester United how Tottenham were 'perfect' opponents

Graeme Souness labelled Tottenham Hotspur "toothless" after Manchester United coasted to a 3-0 victory over Nuno Espirito Santo's beleaguered side.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer changed to a back five for the trip to North London as Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood were dropped to the bench and Edinson Cavani partnered Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

And the Portuguese superstar proved his doubters wrong once more with another sterling performance before Rashford added the sparkle to the victory late on.

Souness claimed the game was "perfect" for United after the week they had but directed criticism at Nuno in what was an uninspiring performance from Spurs.

A valuable win for United provides a lift to the club after last weekend's dismal defeat to Liverpool, and ahead of a difficult trip to Atalanta in midweek. United then host Man City at Old Trafford next weekend.

"They’ve had a horrible week. I mean you take a victory no matter how it comes - this was a perfect game for Man U. Come here, Spurs are toothless, that stats tell you that," Souness said on Sky Sports.

"Not a shot on target. They're relying on the people with a spark - Harry Kane, Son, Moura - none of them did that today. They all look a shadow of what they’ve been in the recent past.

"Spurs are a team who have played ten games now, won five lost five - if you’re a Spurs supporter you’re turning up here, I'm watching them here, not knowing what you’re going to get.

"They’re toothless, they're toothless. It might be harsh but the stats tell you that. Yeah, they've had 58 per cent of the ball today, done nothing with it. They were very, very average today Spurs."
