Graeme Souness slams Harry Kane after what Tottenham ace did during loss to West Ham

Liverpool icon Graeme Souness has lamented Tottenham striker Harry Kane for his performance against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs enjoyed the lion share of possession at the London Stadium but struggled to create any meaningful openings, registering just seven shots across 90 minutes, six less than the home side managed.

Eventually, the Hammers broke the deadlock deep into the second half as fullback Aaron Cresswell delivered an inch-perfect corner from the left flank before Jamaican international Michail Antonio poked the ball past Hugo Lloris in between the sticks.

Tottenham centre-forward Kane garnered considerable criticism for his part in Antonio's goal as the England captain failed to effectively clear the ball, allowing the West Ham frontman to convert from close range.

After the full-time whistle, Souness admitted he was left unimpressed by Kane's defensive efforts.

"He’s more obsessed with the striker not getting there rather than going and attacking the ball", Souness told Sky Sports.

"Maybe I’m digging him out unnecessarily but is that where Harry Kane is right now? Not fully concentrated and looks like he didn’t really want to be in that position.

"Just go and attack the ball son, that’s what you would do if it was at the other end, instead he’s just trying to keep the striker off the ball instead of going for it."

The 28-year-old has struggled for form so far this term, netting just once in the Premier League, registering a measly 1.96xG (expected goals), via Understat.

Spurs head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping that his team can get back to winning ways in midweek as they travel to Burnley in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
