Graeme Souness slams 'anti-Rangers brigade' as he admits one title regret now 55 is confirmed

Graeme Souness has hit out at the ‘anti-Rangers brigade’ after they clinched title number 55.

Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Dundee United confirmed Steven Gerrard's team as 2020/21 Scottish Premiership champions - their first crown in a decade.

Sky sports pundit Souness, who was player-manager at Ibrox between 1986 and 1991 and lifted the trophy in his first season, hailed the players, staff and particularly the fans after an incredible season in which they are still unbeaten in the league.

And he was quick to recall the dark days when they were demoted to the third tier following liquidation in 2012, and praised the support for sticking by their team over the following decade of Celtic dominance.

“It’s been a long time coming,” he told Sky Sports. “Celtic have had a period of domination which was, what I will say, uncomfortable for us Rangers supporters.

"They thoroughly deserve it, they’ve been fantastic all seas and I just wish i was in Glasgow right now!

“Part of me wishes Celtic had won today so Rangers had to go to Parkhead being the in form team and winning it there which would have compounded Celtic’s problems.

“But I’ll take that today.

“They’ve been phenomenal so fair play to the players and the staff and I have to say, the Rangers support. In their history, they’ve never had a period like that which they’ve experienced in the last ten years.

“They were thrown out of the league - unfairly in my opinion - and all the anti-Rangers brigade that were coming out of the woodwork out there.

“When you’re in the third tier and you’ve got 50,000 people turning up to your stadium, that’s a proper support.”
