Graeme Souness's Leeds United assessment is a warning to Liverpool's Premier League title defence

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has explained how Leeds United's performance against Jurgen Klopp's side at Anfield has helped the Reds prepare for their defence of the Premier League title.

The Whites fought back from behind three times on Merseyside, with Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford and Matheusz Klich all on the scoresheet for Marcelo Bielsa's side.

Only a late penalty from Mohamed Salah, who netted a hat-trick after Rodrigo's clumsy challenge on Fabinho, was enough to hand the hosts all three points.

As a result, Souness believes that the game helped Klopp's side prepare for the rigours that lie ahead in the coming months as they seek to secure back-to-back Premier League titles.

“I think that has been a great night for Liverpool in the sense that the manager can say that this is what they’re going to get, you’re the champions, you’re everybody’s cup final,” he told Sky Sports.

"Everyone is going to work as hard between now and the end of the season. I think Leeds have done Liverpool an enormous favour tonight."

Leeds will be looking to secure their first win back in the top-flight next weekend against Fulham when Elland Road hosts it's first Premier League match for 16 years.
