Graeme Souness reveals his Roy Keane Celtic sadness as Rangers icon admits on-air rival 'desperate' for manager gig

Liverpool and Rangers icon Graeme Souness believes Roy Keane joining Celtic would give Scottish football the box office appeal it's been missing.

The Manchester United icon is understood to be keen on the Parkhead vacancy but it appears Eddie Howe is the leading candidate despite the Irishman's eagerness.

And Souness confesses he would love to see his Sky Sports sparring partner square off with Gerrard and his rampant Rangers side who are dreaming of an undefeated Premiership season.

The 67-year-old admits Keane is chomping at the bit to return to management and the Cork native has also been linked with Sheffield United in recent days.

Speaking to Off The Ball, he said: "He (Keane) is desperate to get back.

"He's a football man and I have spoken with him about returning to management. He is very keen to do that.

"Can you imagine how good it would have been if it was Roy Keane vs Steven Gerrard in Glasgow.

"All of a sudden, it wouldn't just be Scotland, Ireland and a wee bit of England talking about Scottish football, the world would be talking about it. It would have been great for Scottish football.

"I know Roy. We live near each other in Cheshire and I've waved to him a few times when he's been out walking his dog.

"I enjoy his company, he is very funny and I find his humour very funny."
