Graeme Souness outlines the challenges David Moyes faces after Grady Diangana sale

Graeme Souness has said that he feels sorry for West Ham boss David Moyes after the criticism of the sale of Grady Diangana.

The academy graduate completed a move to West Bromwich Albion earlier this week after a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

West Ham club captain Mark Noble joined in with the criticism following the decision to sell the 22-year-old.

“As captain of this football club I’m gutted, angry and sad that Grady has left, great kid with a great future!!!!!” he posted on his Twitter account.

However, Speaking on Sky Sports before the match against Newcastle, Souness has said that the captain shouldn’t have publicly aired his views.

“It’s an area players shouldn’t be getting involved with, I don’t think so, but he’s felt strong enough to do it,” he said.

“I’ve never witnessed it before.

“I feel for Moyes there, because when you’re a manager, the job is hard enough if everyone is rowing in the same direction, but West Ham, in the last couple of seasons it appears, some are wanting to go one way, some another way.

"They’re not happy with the players they’ve brought in, they’re not happy with the amount of money they’re spending.

“So they’ve not bought anyone, they’ve sold one of their bright starlets, according to people’s opinions and it would appear, for David Moyes unfortunately before a ball is kicked in earnest, he’s fighting fires. And that is not an ideal place to be for a football club, without wishing them ill, will end up being in a relegation fight again.

“And I come back to it, the job is hard enough if you’re all pulling in the same direction.”

Diangana impressed in a loan spell at West Brom last season, scoring eight and providing a further seven assists.
