Graeme Souness names first thing Liverpool must do at Sheffield United

Graeme Souness says Liverpool need to face the challenge head-on when the play Sheffield United this evening.

The Reds go into the game on the back of four straight Premier League defeats which have seen them drop out of title contention and they now face a battle to make the top four.

Yet Jurgen Klopp's side remain favourites for today's game, due to the fact Sheffield United sit rock-bottom of the Premier League with just three league wins to their name all season.

Souness admits he is mystified as to how the Reds have hit such a bad patch of form and says it will not be an easy game against the Blades.

Yet, speaking on Sky Sports, Souness says Klopp's side should win as long as they apply themselves.

He said:: "I’m mystified like most Liverpool supporters that since the arrival of Van Dijk and Alisson - the one word you’d attach to Liverpool is consistency.

"They get the job done, they’d generally dominate the ball, they’d be aggressive, and all of that’s missing now. You don’t go from where they were, from a team that everyone feared to a team that now everyone wants to play.

"Today isn’t an easy day for them, they know what they’re going to get at Sheffield United - they’re going to get a team who will roll their sleeves up, there’s no secret about what’s coming your way.

"Meet that head-on and if you’re a better player, that will come through at the end of the day.

"The first thing they have to do today, if I was in that dressing room, as a player or as a manager, I’d say: ‘Let’s meet this challenge head-on and because we’re better players, we’ll win the game’."
