Graeme Souness makes Newcastle United prediction after dramatic win over West Ham

Graeme Souness believes Newcastle United's win over West Ham has given them enough points to stay up.

The Magpies made it back-to-back wins with an action-packed 3-2 victory over the Champions League-chasing Hammers, with an own goal and strikes from Joelinton and Joe Willock giving them the win.

Newcastle went 2-0 up in the first half, with West Ham's Craig Dawson being sent off for two bookable offences, before the Hammers struck back to level in the second half despite playing with a man less than the Magpies.

Yet Willock's late header was enough to give Newcastle a dramatic victory as they shrugged off the disappointment of letting a two-goal lead slip.

The victory moves them nine points clear of the relegation zone, leapfrogging Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion in the process.

Speaking on Sky Sports post-match, Souness described the victory as enormous and said he felt that the Magpies' points total of 35 should be enough to see them safe from relegation.

He said: "It’s enormous. I think that will be enough for them, I think West Brom have a bit of momentum so they’ll look at this result as a bit of a kick in the teeth for them, Fulham also.

"I think they’ll be okay now.

"They did that in a fashion which won’t make Steve Bruce too happy because they were in the driving seat, then they completely lost the plot, the other team were down to 10 men, but they got there with a couple of large slices of luck.

"They’ll look back at this season and think other games, lady luck hasn’t been with them, so they’ll take it."
