Graeme Souness believes Steve Bruce and Newcastle United fans will be heartened by the Magpies' performance in their 2-2 draw with Spurs.
Joe Willock's late equaliser earned the Magpies a deserved point after they had spent the majority of the game trailing 2-1 due to Harry Kane's quickfire double after Joelinton's opening goal.
After the Magpies' nightmare performance against Brighton before the international break, Souness felt they looked like a different team against Spurs due to the amount of chances they were able to create in comparison to previous matches.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Souness said the improved performance will be a boost to the club after such a poor run of recent form.
He said: "They certainly deserved it. Scoring and giving up the first goal to Spurs so quickly and so easily would have disheartened them, but they bounced back.
"They went behind again, but they never gave up, they were a completely different team than two weeks ago against Brighton where they didn’t appear to have any fight in them.
"For the supporters and the manager, they will be heartened by that performance today."
Souness' Sky colleague, Michael Dawson, believes the late equaliser will come as a morale-booster head of the final run-in.
Yet the former England defender warned that the Magpies remain deep in a relegation battle this season.
He said: "It will bring some morale. We talked about how disappointing they were at Brighton. Steve Bruce will get some encouragement, but they’re still in a real battle.
"But the performance today will give them some belief because people are questioning them."
