Graeme Souness makes Manchester United claim about Leicester star Jonny Evans

Graeme Souness believes that Leicester City defender Jonny Evans would "walk into" Manchester United's team.

The Leicester City centre-back joined the club from West Brom in 2018 following the Baggies' relegation to the Championship.

The former Red Devils defender made over 130 appearances during his time at Old Trafford before departing for the Hawthorns in 2015.

Evans was highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson, who has previously said he envisaged Evans and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique as being United's centre-back pairing for 10 years, whilst in their youth.

Whilst their careers may have headed in opposite paths, Evans has forged a career as one of the best and most reliable defenders in the Premier League.

At the King Power Stadium, he has stepped up following the departure of Harry Maguire and formed a strong partnership with Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu.

However, Souness believes that Evans may still not have reached his peak, even at 31, and would easily "walk into" United's current defence.

Speaking to Sky Sports as part of their punditry team for Leicester vs Newcastle United, he said: "Jonny Evans and his Turkish partner will enjoy that midfield in front of him.

"I'm an enormous fan, of this guy as well. I think at 31, he may have not reached his peak yet. When you look at Man United have at the back, he walks into the Man United team, for me.

"He looks to be a really solid character, not short of ability, a modern centre-back at times, he's more than comfortable to take it in areas where a lot of centre-backs wouldn't.

"He can make passes, senses danger, of course, he should at 31, but he's an all-round top-class centre-half for me."
