Graeme Souness makes Christian Eriksen statement that will concern Tottenham fans

Graeme Souness believes Tottenham's transfer business this summer may not be over and a significant departure could occur before the end of the window in Europe.

While the transfer window in England closed prior to the start of the new season, the window on the continent remains open until the end of the month.

Because of that, speculation around a number of players continues - and one of them is Christian Eriksen, who has previously been public about his desire to leave.

The Danish international has less than one year remaining on his contract at Tottenham, although there isn't long left for a deal to be agreed, with the deadline across Europe on September 2.

Real Madrid remain among the favourites to sign Eriksen this summer, and Atletico Madrid have also been linked, although Eriksen is currently odds-on to stay at Tottenham beyond the summer transfer deadline in Europe.

But Souness believes the fact he wasn't named in the starting line-up against Newcastle could be an indication that an exit is still on the cards.

“Are they preparing for life without him? The manager is probably thinking in the back of his head that this transfer window is still open in Europe. If he doesn’t leave in this window, I think we’ll see him more,” he told Sky Sports, speaking ahead of Spurs' game against Newcastle this afternoon (Sunday).

“I think right now, I’d imagine there are conversations. The agents not sitting on his hands, he’ll be trying to get his player away, so there will be conversations taking place and I’m sure Spurs and Daniel Levy will be aware of that.”
