Graeme Souness makes 'angry' Liverpool claim and knocks Arsenal credentials

Former Liverpool star Graeme Souness believes his former club will have a 'point to prove' when they face Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.

The Reds welcome Mikel Arteta's side to Anfield having suffered their first defeat of the season last time out against West Ham.

Liverpool currently sit fourth in the table and another defeat on Saturday could push them out of the Champions League spots.

The disappointing loss before the international break means Jurgen Klopp's side will be 'angry' this weekend, according to Souness.

"It will go the same way," he told Sky Sports' Essential Football Podcast, when asked how the game will pan out.

"No matter what Liverpool team play, whatever the selection is, I think Liverpool will be an angry team with a point to prove at the weekend, having lost last time out where they were not at their normal standards.

"So I'm expecting a full throttle Liverpool against an Arsenal team who will be turning up with a bit of confidence and I'd be cautious with that.

"But given the teams they [Arsenal] have been playing of late, they're not exactly top of the table teams: an average Leicester this year, a draw with Brighton, beating Watford, Norwich and beating a very poor Spurs team.

"They've got some confidence from winning games and they're sitting in a very healthy position in the league but the hard part of their season is ahead."

Arsenal currently sit fifth in the table, just two points behind Liverpool.

Despite a dismal start to the campaign, the London club are on an eight-game unbeaten run and victory at Anfield would see them leapfrog Liverpool in the table.
