Graeme Souness issues verdict on Newcastle United's signing of Callum Wilson

Former Newcastle United boss Graeme Souness has high expectations for Callum Wilson after his arrival from Bournemouth in the transfer window.

The England international has moved to Tyneside to provide a significant boost to Steve Bruce's attacking ranks, as they look to climb the table this term.

With an abundance of Premier League experience, Wilson has been tipped to hit the ground running at Newcastle by Souness - who has watched him closely in recent seasons.

"I know a lot about Callum Wilson because until last season I was a season ticket holder at Bournemouth. I like him very much," he told Sky Sports.

"Apart from him having two cruciate ligament injuries, he was absolutely on fire. He's played for England, his movement is great, he's quick, he's aggressive, he's powerful.

"I think under Steve Bruce, he will be a big success at Newcastle. He's a handful in every aspect, as a centre-half you don't want to be up against people like that because he wants to get in a race with you and wants to take you on physically, then when he gets there he is a good finisher.

"At Bournemouth, they didn't get the ball up to him quick enough but now they will, he can get in a race and they'll be a little bit more direct. I think he'll suit them down to the ground."
