Graeme Souness highlights where Aaron Wan-Bissaka must improve after Watford error

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has insisted that Aaron Wan-Bissaka must stop going to ground as often and learn to read the game better.

The Manchester United right-back has made a habit of fantastic sliding tackle challenges in his fledgling career.

However, that backfired during United's 2-0 defeat to Watford, with the Englishman giving away a penalty to allow Troy Deeney to double the hosts lead.

A mistake from David de Gea had allowed Ismaila Sarr to put the Hornets in front before Deeney's penalty made it up an up-hill task for United.

With two costly individual errors proving decisive, former Souness has insisted Wan-Bissaka must learn to stay on his feet more and read the situation before diving in.

"He goes to ground a lot, Wan-Bissaka. It's not a great sign for a defender," Souness told Sky Sports.

"It means you're not reading it early. The top men very rarely go to ground. They go to ground when it's last-ditch and they're caught on their heels or somebody has done something very special against them.

"He goes to ground too often which tells me he isn't reading the situation early enough."

Similarly, former Chelsea full-back Ashley Cole has admitted there was no need for Wan-Bissaka to make the challenge and it was simply a rush of blood that caused the error.

"I think he was in a good position to recover but it's just a silly mistake," Cole added.

"No (he doesn't need to make the tackle), he's got Maguire coming across, the ball isn't even on the floor so it's a not as if he was even making a slide tackle. The ball is in the air, he's never going to win that ball."
