Graeme Souness hammers Newcastle United's Valentino Lazaro for role in two Arsenal goals

Graeme Souness has hammered Valentino Lazaro and Newcastle United after the 4-0 defeat at Arsenal.

The Magpies have slipped to 13th in the table after the result but they are still seven points clear of the relegation zone.

The Gunners took the lead in the second half after a goalless first period. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted before Nicolas Pepe made it 2-0 ahead of the hour mark. Mesut Ozil bagged the third in the 90th minute before Alexandre Lacazette made it 4-0 in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Souness was in the Sky Sports studio for the contest and was quick to criticise Lazaro for his role in the first two goals of the game.

"If you watch (Federico) Fernandez, he's pointing out to Lazaro, he's got his right arm out and telling them to pick him up," Souness told Sky Sports.

"He's worried about the centre of the goal and Lazaro doesn't do it. It's a free header, Lazaro is behind him. He doesn't get into the right position, it's all down to him.

"He can't affect the game there, he can't affect the header. And then, Lazaro is again at fault for the second goal, for me. He jogged out to him, you've got to sprint out to him and keep him facing away from goal.

"It's too easy. It may sound cynical but you've got to foul and take a card there, you can't allow him to sprint past you, that's why the intensity of the Premier League catches out players."
