Graeme Souness gives withering verdict on Miguel Almiron's impact at Newcastle United

Former Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness has questioned whether Miguel Almiron has the ability to be a hit at the club, in comments made ahead of the clash against Tottenham Hotsur.

Newcastle, pointless from their opening two matches of the 2019/20 Premier League season, are still looking to find their feet under Steve Bruce and have a number of players they will be wanting more from.

Almiron, who was signed from Atlanta United in January for a then club-record fee, is one of those players as the creative South American has only managed to show flashes of his potential thus far.

With the 25-year-old yet to find the back of the net for the Magpies, Souness believes that he may lack the attributes to be a success at Newcastle and in the Premier League.

“12 games, no goals, no assists. He’s lightning quick but that’s just not enough at this level,” he told Sky Sports.

“You need to have a football brain and the ability to go with that pace. Now he’s 25, is he going to learn to have a football brain? It’s a big question mark.

“I’m not sure. I think he’s going to find life difficult in our football.”
