Graeme Souness explains transfer theory and declares Liverpool as Premier League favourites

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has confidently declared that Jurgen Klopp's side are favourites to retain the Premier League title this season.

After bringing an end to a lengthy wait for a top-flight title last term, Liverpool embark on a new challenge to clinch back-to-back honours this season.

To the surprise of many, they will do so without venturing deep into the transfer market and Souness, explaining why that might be the case, still thinks Liverpool are the ones to beat.

“For me, they do start as favourites. The word consistency comes into play, not just last year but the year before," he told Sky Sports ahead of the 4-3 victory over Leeds United.

“They’re a team that’s beyond what I understand consistency to be. I’ve played in some great teams but we never had that consistency that this Liverpool team have found.

"They’ve been off the charts with it and I don’t see that changing.

“What I would have liked to happen is seeing a few new faces coming in.

"When you’re the current world champions, the Premier League champions and, until recently, the European champions, you’d like to think the easy part would be attracting top players.

“I’m sure they’ve got the money but I think on the other side of the coin, Jurgen most know what he’s got coming up in the youth development squad and he must believe the people coming up can do a job for him.”
