Graeme Souness delivers damning verdict on Manchester United transfer target Jack Grealish

Liverpool great Graeme Souness has issued a damning verdict on Manchester United transfer target Jack Grealish.

United are interested in signing the Aston Villa captain this summer as they look to add a midfielder in the transfer window.

Grealish has improved his game further this season and played a key role for Villa on their return to the Premier League.

But Souness highlighted a stat that says Grealish is the most fouled player in the league as a negative rather than a positive.

Some would say it shows how skilful he is to avoid losing possession legally but Souness is adamant it means that the playmaker does not see the game quick enough.

In a somewhat bizarre rant, Souness told Sky Sports before Villa's game at Liverpool: “When I was playing, I would not want to be the most fouled player in the Premier League.

"That means I’m holding on to the ball for too long. It means I’m not seeing the picture early enough, taking an extra touch when I don’t need to. It means you’re not seeing the picture quick enough.

"There’s no doubt about it. Yeah, he’s got ability. He’s silky on the eye, but I’m yet to be convinced by him. When I was being coached at our club Liverpool, I was told that I made the strikers’ mind up. With my body movement, the way I get the ball out of my feet, I’m making them run before I even kick the ball.

"I just think anyone who gets tackled that much, and draws that many fouls, is not seeing the picture quick enough. Would I have liked to play against him? I would’ve loved to play against him. Get physical with him. I wouldn’t like to play against Paul Scholes, he’s too quick. Xavi, Iniesta, popping it off one or two touches."
