Dele Alli's future was once again a major talking point ahead of Tottenham's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
The England international did not feature in Jose Mourinho's matchday squad for Sunday's game amid continued speculation over the player's future.
Alli seems to have fallen out of favour with Mourinho, though the Spurs boss has insisted the 24-year-old will remain at the club in this transfer window despite talk of interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The situation was discussed by the Sky Sports pundits in the build-up to the Newcastle match.
“I would not be a happy man," said Graeme Souness. "For me, I thought four years ago when he burst onto the scene, that this guy is destined for stardom.
"Good two seasons, then he stalled. I believe in English football, you have some great young players, but how many of them will fully fulfil their potential?
"Because unfortunately, you have to give players too much too soon, and I think Dele’s fallen into that.”
Former Tottenham man Michael Dawson added: “He started the first game against Everton, then was dragged at half-time, he played in Europe on Thursday, and was brought off again.
"I’m not sure if you’ve seen the documentary but Jose Mourinho called him lazy. Is that a problem now?
"If Dele Alli isn’t even making the bench for this squad, he’s got to be thinking, ‘Where do I go from here?’, because two or three years ago, when he broke onto the scene, he was electric, he was immense.
"Even when Mourinho first came into the club, he was brilliant as well.”
