Graeme Souness branded a 'd***' as Rangers cult hero launches astonishing radio tirade

Hugh Burns has launched a jaw-dropping broadside at former Ibrox gaffer Graeme Souness as he admonished him for his choice of shoes on Sky Sports.

The pair didn't see eye-to-eye from the moment Souness pitched up as Ibrox gaffer in 1986 and Burns was quickly moved on to Hamilton on loan before sealing a permanent departure to Hearts a year later.

Burns has since worked as a Rangers TV commentator where his infamous “What’s the goalie daein’, Tom?” reaction to a Celtic goal became a viral sensation although he no longer features in the club's match coverage.

And his latest comment are likely to be unpopular with fans who idolise the 67-year-old former player-boss.

The pundit was in the middle of a conversation about plimsoll shoes on the Talking Football show when he interrupted host Bill Young and fellow guest Gordon Young to slaughter his old gaffer.

Burns said: "I have got to say something. I was watching Sky last night and Souness had a pair (of 'sandshoes') on. He's not my favourite person anyway but he looked like a right topper."

Young replied: "What have you got against him?"

Burns answered: "Because he's a d***.

"He's a right trumpet sitting there (adopts Souness impression) 'That's for sure.'

"All the gear on with a pair of sannies. Some of us can still carry it but not him.

"He thinks he's still 40 that diddy."
