Graeme Murty in surprise Rangers reshuffle as coach replaced as reserve team boss

Rangers have conducted a surprise back-room reshuffle with former stand in boss Graeme Murty removed from his position as reserve team boss.

Record Sport understands Peter Lovenkrands has been promoted to take charge of Steven Gerrard’s second string players with Murty taking the Dane’s place as an academy coach working with the club’s most talented youngsters.

News of the shake-up emerged on the day Gerrard’s first team squad returned to their Auchenhowie HQ to start preparing for the new season.

It’s understood one time Ibrox star Lovenkrands will work more closely with the manager as part of the changes.

Murty has twice found himself in interim charge of the top team - first in February 2017 after Mark Warburton left the Ibrox club and before Pedro Caixinha was appointed to the role.

But Murty had to take hold of the reins again later that year after Caixinha was sacked and it was during this ill-fated spell that his relationship with a host of Rangers first team players became fractured - with skipper Lee Wallace and veteran striker Kenny Miller hit with club suspensions following an Old Firm hammering in the Scottish Cup semi final.
