Graeme McDowell makes incredible hole-in-one at Zurich Classic

Ireland's Graeme McDowell made an incredible hole-in-one on Friday at the Zurich Classic.

His first on the PGA Tour, the 41-year-old joked afterwards that the shot was meant as a lay up rather than a genuine attempt at the pin.

Competing alongside England's Matt Wallace at the unique TPC Louisiana tournament, McDowell scored the incredible shot on the par four 17th.

The duo were competing in foursomes on Friday when the 2010 US Open champ lined up his tee shot with a 4-iron on the penultimate hole, and was seemingly happy with a shot on its way towards the green as he picked up his tee.

However, the ball skipped forward and headed towards the flag before catching just enough of the left side of the pin much to his disbelief - leading to brilliant celebrations between the pair and their caddies.

“That was a lay up!” McDowell joked in a TV interview afterwards.

“I would have been happy with anything dry there, but I’ll take a one.

“I decided to try and hit a four (iron) and pitch it to the front half of the green and sort of take my medicine and get out of there.

“It was a nice little shot in the arm for us, and we birdied the next, and we put ourselves in a nice little slot going into the weekend.”
