Graeme Jones reveals his vow to Newcastle United players before Crystal Palace clash

Graeme Jones says he was convinced Newcastle United would beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Magpies stayed in the game, even after going 1-0 down to Christian Benteke's goal, but after Callum Wilson's equaliser had to settle for a point in the capital.

Jones made his way over to the Newcastle supporters to join in the post-game proceedings with the Toon Army and was delighted to have at least delivered a score draw.

Indeed, things had looked concerning when Benteke looked like he'd scored the winner only for VAR to come to Jones' rescue.

When asked about his moment with the supporters, Jones said: "I do consider myself one of them, I have just had a football education in the process.

"At the end, I was pleased I gave them something. The boys gave everything they had and I told them that was the only measurement. Give everything you have and the result will come."

And reflecting on the fact that he'd told players he had confidence they'd win the game, Jones added: "I actually said a win would come, so I have let them down.

"We will take the positive point. And we will try to improve next week and move forward."
