Graeme Jones' 'free-hit' as he looks to impress in Newcastle United role

Newcastle United travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday to take on Crystal Palace in what is a must-win game for the Magpies.

With United 19th in the Premier League and a horrible run of form on the horizon, three points in the capital are vital.

Graeme Jones will take temporary charge of the side after Steve Bruce left the club by mutual consent.

Andrew Musgrove and John Gibson preview the game on The Everything is Black and White Podcast.

The pair discuss the exit of Bruce, the chance Jones has to impress, who may come in and take the manager's job as well as the threat Palace pose.

Speaking about Jones, Gibbo said: "It's a free-hit, he's got nothing to lose.

"He's not going to get the job here permanently, so let's say he loses two games - Palace and then Chelsea- people will say 'they were tough games anyway but a defeat won't damage his reputation.

"If he wins - it'll boost his reputation considerably, and it may persuade the new manager coming in that Jones is a vital part of the backroom staff and he can stay."
