Graduates find placements despite the recession

PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP announced 125 new graduates have started this spring – the first part of the 1000-strong recruitment drive for 2009.

According to head of student recruitment, Sonja Stockton, the recession has had a healthy impact on applications.

She said: "Competition for places is fierce and we've seen a 38% increase to date this year in applications to our full-time programme, and 30% increase to our internship programme."

The firm has confirmed it is still recruiting for open vacancies in the midlands, north west, south west and greater London.

Sonja urges students to make the most of the opportunities and broaden their horizons to gain the valuable skills and experience UK business would need in the recovery. She said: "I would encourage students to think beyond London. A career can start anywhere and we have great opportunities in many of our regional offices, including the east and west midlands, south and south east."

The firm's graduate and undergraduate opportunities are across the tax, advisory and assurance businesses.
