Graduates and school leavers start careers at accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young in Nottingham

Four university graduates and two school leavers have chosen to start their accountancy careers at UHY Hacker Young’s Nottingham office.

Hannah Terry, Katherine Rich, Matthew Hart and Sohail Amin have joined the firm as graduates in the audit and accounts team.

As part of this, the group will be studying for the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales Chartered Accountant ACA qualification while working at UHY.

Two school leavers - Joe McGarrigle from The Priory Ruskin Academy in Grantham and Joshua Lead from Hall Park Academy in Eastwood - have also joined the firm in its client support team.

Joe and Joshua will be studying towards the Association of Accounts Technician (AAT) qualification.

Simon Browning, partner in charge of the office at UHY, said: "We’re delighted that six talented young people have chosen UHY to start their careers. We are looking forward to seeing their skills develop while they flourish in their new roles and the industry."

Katherine, who graduated with a PhD in English from the University of York, said: "After completing my PhD I was attracted to accountancy due to the varied nature of the work and all the different avenues it could open up for me in the future.

"I always enjoyed maths - it just wasn’t what I chose to pursue at degree level.

"It’s been an adjustment for me to work in a different sector, but one that makes sense and I find satisfying."
