Grading the Bears’ selection of Georgia WR Riley Ridley

Ryan Pace is staying true to his best player available strategy for the 2019 NFL Draft.

He let the draft board fall to him in the fourth round and took the player highest on his board, regardless of what he already had at the position.

Georgia wide receiver Riley Ridley was rated as high as a second round pick by some draft analysts, and the Chicago Bears landed him with the 126th overall pick.

The first trait that jumps out is his route running. He wasn’t asked to run a full route tree in a loaded Bulldogs offense, but the technique he showed on the routes he did run should set him up to win all over the field in the NFL.

Ridley has adequate speed and above average acceleration with the intelligence to set up cornerbacks and break away for separation.

He may not ever be a true No. 1 receiver, but he has all the potential to be a solid No. 2, drawing comparisons to last year’s second-round pick Anthony Miller.

Ridley is great value on the board in the fourth round, and the Bears can never have too many wide receivers.

Grade: B
