The Tennessee Titans re-signed outside linebacker Kamalei Correa to a one-year, $3.5 million deal to bring him back to Nashville in 2020.
Correa played in all 16 games last season, making five starts and totaling five sacks and 37 combined tackles. In two seasons with the Titans, Correa has 8.5 sacks in 29 games (nine starts).
When Cameron Wake was placed on Injured Reserve last season, Correa stepped up and played well in his absence. In the team’s last five games of the regular season without Wake, Correa notched four of his five sacks.
When the postseason rolled around, Correa kept on chugging. He totaled an additional two sacks, and his 10 combined tackles in the AFC Championship Game against the Kansas City Chiefs was the most on the team.
With a great motor, Correa has always been a solid contributor for Tennessee, serving as great depth behind the team’s starting outside linebackers. He’ll take on that role once again in 2020, with the team having Harold Landry and the recently-signed Vic Beasley as the projected starters.
I figured Correa would be moving on with his stellar play at the end of the last season propelling him to a starting job elsewhere, so it was a pleasant surprise to see the Titans bring him back at such a reasonable price.
It’s hard to find quality depth at such an important position, but the Titans certainly have that at outside linebacker with Correa, along with guys like D’Andre Walker, Derick Roberson and Reggie Gilbert.
This re-signing was a big score for the Titans, and it’s yet another small step to making this team one that can compete for a Super Bowl in 2020.
