Nov. 24--Notre Dame was on the doorstep of a victory after facing a first-and-goal from the 10-yard line in the final minutes of its 31-28 loss Saturday to Louisville. But the Irish's drive sputtered and Kyle Brindza missed a 32-yard field goal, sealing the win for the Cardinals. It wasn't Notre Dame's worst performance of the season, but it still left much to be desired.
Offense: C-
While quarterback Everett Golson and the offense cut down on the turnovers (just one interception), the offense had five drives reach the red zone but only two ended in touchdowns. The Irish got their ground game going behind 134 yards from Tarean Folston, but they couldn't finish enough drives for the win.
Defense: C
It has been a hard go for the Notre Dame defense of late and injuries have played a major role in the unit's problems. The young Irish had trouble tackling as Louisville racked up 229 yards rushing.
Special teams: D
Greg Bryant had a 61-yard punt return to set up a Notre Dame touchdown, but the field-goal operation floundered again at the most important time.
Coaching: C
It has been a challenge for Brian Kelly and his staff to coach up a young defense. There's only so much they can do after suffering such devastating personnel losses. The Irish offense came out uninspired in the first half and let Louisville take control of the game.
