Grace Jones has described feeling as though she is hallucinating when sober after years of taking LSD.
The iconic singer spoke to Dazed magazine about experimenting with the hallucinogenic drug.
Reflecting on how taking LSD, which was banned for recreational use in 1966, and medical use seven years later, Jones said she believed it gave her a heightened sense of awareness.
“Outside of the fact that I survived it, LSD gave me a lot of insight and sensitivity about what is happening 360 degrees around me. I plugged into all of it. I’m not sure if it’s just the LSD, but it gave me a sixth sense of awareness.”
LSD users can experience both positive and negative trips while taking the drug. Earlier this year, scientists began testing LSD on humans to see if it can be used in therapeutic treatments again.
Jones also asked her interviewer if they had seen a fly at the dinner table and said: “I can never tell if I’m tripping.”
She addressed her relationship with the drug further in her autobiography, I’ll Never Write my Memoirs, where she also skewered artists such as Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj, accusing modern popstars of imitating her style and debasing themselves in their attempts to be the most outrageous and provocative.
Jones, 67, warned without a sustainable long term vision, they would be soon be overshadowed by “a newer version, a crazier version, a louder version”, making them nothing more than a passing phase.
