GrabExpress reaches out for delivery

Tarin Thaniyavarn, country head of Grab Thailand.

To capitalise on growing customer demand for instant delivery service and the nonstop rise of e-commerce, Grab Thailand on Thursday launched a new delivery service, GrabExpress.

GrabExpress, a rebranding of GrabDelivery, combines all delivery fleet options with new features to serve the everyday needs of individuals and business, the company said.

Tarin Thaniyavarn, country head of Grab Thailand, said GrabExpress is part of the company's plans to become an everyday superapp that serves users' daily needs.

"Being an everyday superapp not only serves users, but it also creates an ecosystem of services that improves quality of life through the use of technology, offering win-win benefits to partners and eliminating barriers for micro-entrepreneurs [to access] distribution networks," Mr Tarin said.

For GrabExpress, the on-demand parcel and document delivery service combines the distribution network of Grab's varied vehicle fleets (motorcycles, car and pickups) to serve growing demand for delivery services for parcels weighing 15 to 300 kilogrammes.

The delivery fee in Bangkok will start at 50 baht for motorcycles, 150 baht for cars and 250 baht for pickups.

Mr Tarin said the new service offers fast and concurrent bookings of up to 10 deliveries to serve the increasing demand of businesses and consumers for 24/7 delivery.

The company offers real-time tracking of delivery status, both on the website and in the mobile app via a secure platform. Users will receive a photo e-receipt as proof upon the completion of each delivery to ensure that their parcels are sent to the right place and person.

GrabExpress also offers insurance coverage of up to 10,000 baht on items in case of damage or loss for car and pickup delivery, and 5,000 baht for bike delivery, facilitated through Grab's partnership with Sunday Insurance.

GrabExpress service is available in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Chiang Mai and is set to expand to other provinces.

GrabMart, an on-demand concierge service for purchasing goods at convenience stores, will be available on the Grab app in August.

The on-demand concierge GrabMart lets users pinpoint any convenience store outlet, such as FamilyMart, and fill out shopping lists for orders of up to 500 baht in the "notes to driver" field.

Once booked, a nearby delivery partner will accept the job and call the user to confirm the order. Before making payment at the convenience store, the delivery partner will confirm the final pricing with the user via GrabChat.

Later this year, Grab will also launch GrabFresh, an on-demand grocery delivery service. It is a GrabPlatform partner integration with HappyFresh, the biggest Southeast Asian grocery delivery provider.

The company plans to meet increasingly sophisticated consumer demand through one mobile app and five new services, to be introduced next year.
