A woman taking a Grab motorcycle said she and the driver were attacked by two "win" motorcycle taxi drivers. The incident took place off Ratchadaphisek Road in Bangkok late on Tuesday night.
On her Facebook page, the woman, using the name Hataiwan Yasuta, wrote that she was very angry and upset after the men tried to hit her with a thick wooden stick. Luckily she and the driver were unhurt.
The woman filed a complaint with Huai Kwang Police Station. This led to police making two arrests. The two men were charged with acting in a threatening manner and assault. They admitted to the offence, she said in an update.
The woman claimed that she used the Grab service after she couldn't find a regular "win" motorcycle. Once on the road, she noticed two men on another motorcycle following them.
When her motorcycle stopped, one of the men suddenly struck out at her and the driver with the stick. Fortunately they missed.
Her report is the latest incident in the ongoing conflict between taxi drivers and those working for the ride-sharing services Grab and Uber.
The regular drivers accuse the ride-sharing services of stealing business from them. The services are considered illegal by authorities, because the cars and motorcycles used are not registered for public transport.
However, there is growing concern over the intimidation of users of the ride-sharing services.
"How dare they attack a passenger in this way?" the woman asked.
