GPs will soon be able to use 3D scanners created to stargaze into deep space

3D scanners used to study deep space are being developed for use in GP surgeries.

Experts have been granted £1million of UK Space Agency funds to use the technology in small, portable X-ray machines.

They will be connected via satellites and will give a more comprehensive view of areas where doctors suspect cancerous tumours.

It has been developed by UK firm Adaptix which is based in the European Space Agency’s centre in Oxfordshire.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “This is a brilliant example of how innovators can work with the NHS to help save lives with more early diagnosis of cancer.”
