GP surgery temporarily closes after staff shortages due to Covid

A GP surgery has temporarily closed as a result of staff absence due to Covid-19, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board confirmed.

Llanyrafon Surgery, in Cwmbran, was forced to close to do staff absence from "all sectors of their team", said a statement issued on Monday, January 4.

Patients have been asked not to attend the surgery, but have been advised that if they have an urgent issue they can telephone the practice as normal.

A spokesperson for Aneurin Bevan health board confirmed that the surgery is due to reopen again on Wednesday, January 6.

In its statement, the health board said: "Llanyravon Surgery is experiencing high levels of staff absence from all sectors of their team due to Covid-19, therefore the practice is temporarily closed.

"Whilst they are enduring this difficult time, we ask for your patience and continued support.

"Please do not attend the surgery. If you need to contact the practice with an urgent issue please telephone as normal. Dr Ghazal will be able to provide an urgent service as clinically required."

It continued: "Please visit the practice website for information on services available outside of the surgery which may be more suitable to your needs.

"We will keep you updated regarding the reopening of the practice. Thank you for your understanding at this time."

On Tuesday, Aneurin Bevan university health board confirmed that it would be opening new mass vaccination centres across Gwent to facilitate the roll out of the vaccine in the health board area.

As of January 5, the health board has one vaccination centre located in Cwmbran.

It said that opening new vaccination centres across Gwent will "make the vaccine as accessible as possible for everyone who needs it."

Newport: 590.3 (up from 579.9)

Caerphilly: 513.6 (up from 508.1)

Blaenau Gwent: 545.4 (up from 531.0)

Torfaen: 555.5 (up from 554.5)

Monmouthshire: 335.1 (up from 316.1)
