BENGALURU: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said his government aims to bring down Karnataka's infant mortality rate (IMR) from around 20 per 1,000 live births to single digit.
Speaking at an event - Conference on updates in speciality paediatrics - organised by Rainbow Children's Hospital, Bommai said Karnataka's IMR and MMR (maternal mortality rate) are low, except in 5-6 districts.
"We are specially focusing on these districts and are working on parameters such as education, health, nutrition, women and child welfare," Bommai said.
He also said budgetary allocation for health and education has been increased. "Programmes are being implemented to eradicate malnutrition. Nutritious food is being served to children in anganwadis and to kids from poor working-class families." tnn
