Govt. urged to increase assistance for differently-abled

The office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently-abled and Caregivers (TARATDAC) met Social Welfare Minister P. Geetha Jeevan and Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu on Friday and pressed for fulfilment of many of their long-pending demands.

B.S. Bharathi Anna, State vice-president, TARATDAC, said the meeting happened during a review attended by the two along with other officials to discuss the welfare of the differently-abled.

While many of their demands were taken into consideration, a few important ones were not adequately addressed during the discussion, he said.

Among them was the demand to increase monthly assistance provided to the differently-abled from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 immediately and later to ₹3,000.

Mr. Anna said they sought regular conduct of grievance redress meetings at the level of Revenue Divisional Officers.
