The government has asked public transportation and lodging businesses to support students who will take university entrance examinations in January amid the surge of the novel coronavirus, Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Minister Koichi Hagiuda said Friday after a Cabinet meeting.
The entrance examination season kicks off in January with the Common Test for University Admissions as a start.
The ministry has asked related organizations for cooperation and called for thorough COVID-19 countermeasures at accommodations where test-takers will stay, as well as for congestion relief on trains and buses. Cram school staff are urged not to come to test venues to encourage students.
The ministry also asked parents of test-takers to observe health precautions and avoid situations at high risk of virus infections, such as business dinner parties.
