Govt. receives committee report on Tipu lessons

Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar on Friday said a decision on the experts’ report on whether to drop, retain or modify the lessons on Tipu Sultan in textbooks would he taken after consulting Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

Mr. Kumar told reporters here that he received the report from the experts’ committee on Thursday. “I am going through the report,” he said, and added that a decision would be taken after consultation with the Chief Minister.

The committee, consisting of subject experts, had submitted a report to the Karnataka Textbook Society on December 6.

The government had constituted the committee following an appeal from BJP MLA Appachu Ranjan to drop contents related to Tipu Sultan from textbooks. Lessons related to the Mysuru ruler are taught in classes 6, 7, and 10 of the State board.
