NEW DELHI: The government on Tuesday questioned a WTO panel finding, holding India guilty of violating global trade rules on sugar subsidies. The panel has asked India to comply with multilateral norms in the dispute raised by Brazil, Australia and Guatemala.
“We recommend India bring its WTO-inconsistent measures into conformity with obligations under the Agreement on Agriculture and the SCM (Subsidies & Countervailing Measures),” the panel said. The government said there will be no impact, while maintaining the panel’s findings were “erroneous”. “The findings are completely unacceptable to India,” an official statement said.
