MANGALURU: The government has presented ‘kattala (darkness) bhagya’ along with the Gruha Jyothi scheme in the state, mocked BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Reacting sharply against the government for not ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the state, Kateel said, “The government has introduced a scheme that offers zero bill and zero power supply.”
“The Congress had announced guarantee schemes prior to the assembly election. There were no conditions when they announced the schemes before the election. They promised the implementation of five guarantee schemes. The government has introduced four of the five guarantee schemes. However, they have introduced conditions for all the schemes now,” Kateel told reporters here on Thursday.
The MP also questioned the rationale of announcing schemes without conditions, and implementing the same with restrictions. “Indira Gandhi imposed an Emergency during her tenure as prime minister. At present, the state is witnessing a politics of vengeance, with cases being registered against journalists, social media users, and even officials who speak against corruption. Those who raise their voice against corruption are sent to jail. Hence, they have imposed an emergency,” Kateel said.
On the Cauvery water dispute, Kateel said that releasing water to Tamil Nadu will affect the farmers of Karnataka. “We oppose the release of water to Tamil Nadu during the night, without ensuring sufficient water for farmers of Karnataka. This is an injustice to the farmers of Karnataka. Farmers are also facing difficulties due to lack of power. They are not able to irrigate crops due to lack of power supply,” he said, adding that the BJP will launch a protest soon
