INDORE: While the literacy rate of Indore, the education hub of Madhya Pradesh is already higher than that of the state, school education department is working towards getting over 90 per cent literacy rate for Indore.
According to officials of the school education department of Indore district, although the Census haven't been conducted in 2021, Indore is considered literate district as the literacy per cent of the district is over 80 per cent.
"Out of the 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh, 10 districts which have literacy per cent more than 80 per cent don't run literacy campaigns which includes Indore district," official of Indore's school education department told TOI wishing anonymity.
As per the data of IndiaCensus.net, the literacy rate of Madhya Pradesh is 69.3 per cent and the literacy rate of Indore is 80.9 per cent which is the second highest of the state followed by Bhopal.
Moreover, in the state, Jabalpur has the highest literacy rate and Alirajpur has the lowest literacy rate.
As per the data, 78.7 per cent is the literacy rate of men and 59.2 per cent is the literacy rate of women of Madhya Pradesh.
Considering that the enrollment of students in schools has also increased in the state, the department is eying to get a better literacy rate.
Although, this year's theme for World Literacy Day is "Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide." However, as per the latest report of Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), in Madhya Pradesh only 14.1 per cent schools have internet facility whereas the private schools have 46.47 per cent internet facility.
As per the recent report of UDISE, 9119353 Students are enrolled in various schools in Madhya Pradesh.
Joint director of Indore divisions's school education department, Hansa Arya said that the department has been trying to ensure that the number of drop outs decrease and the department has also been trying get more candidates.
"Although, owing to the Covid-19, there were some difficulties faced by the department. But we have been giving many benefits to the students to ensure that they don't drop out and we are quite certain that the rate will certainly increase in the census now," she added.
